It is probably using a simpler approach like Karsten mentioned above. Maybe further tuning would help, but it is not using the same method as the first two, ie analysis of groups of frames within a given window. I've tried the $25 Seed De-Flicker a few times and it doesn't seem to help much. They are useful on time lapses, exposure stepping due to auto ISO, banding from fluorescent lighting, and for slight pulsating light from whirling blades of a ceiling fan. For future reference, it appears there are three FCPX plugins which do this: Seed De-Flicker ($25): BorisFX Flicker Fixer ($299, part of their Image Restoration package, not sure if it's available separately): Digital Anarchy Flicker Free ($150): I have all three, and the BorisFX and Digital Anarchy product work very well, almost miraculously.
